How To Measure A Trampoline: Your Go-To Guide For Any Shape

A few years ago, I noticed my trampoline mat had a minor tear and knew it was time for a replacement. A minor tear looks like something to ignore, but one jump on it will send you right down. Of course, that’s risky, especially for the kids, and no one surely wants to end the fun afternoon with a visit to the ER.

I ordered a new mat online. I was excited, but the mat was smaller than my trampoline. I couldn’t return the mat and needed a new one. Money wasted!

But don’t worry, you can always avoid stress and take the time to measure a trampoline the right and effortless way. In this guide, I’ll share some insightful tips to help make your work easier.

Reasons for Taking a Trampoline's Measurement

As mentioned earlier, trampolines have various shapes and sizes, so if you’re not careful, you’ll end up with the wrong size replacement. When ordering, the sellers always ask for measurements if you wing it, it would be your mistake. If you still have questions on why you should measure a trampoline, here are three reasons why you should consider it:

Trampoline accessories

Trampolines are made with specific measurements depending on the size and manufacturer’s design. You’ll need the right accessories for your trampoline to ensure you have the right accessories. Some parts will need replacing at some point, and there’s a worse chance if you end up fitting a part that doesn’t fit correctly.

User friendly

When you buy a new trampoline with the help of the manual, it is easy to set up. The average time depends on the size and type but nothing complicated. So, if you order the right accessories, they should fit in easily. You should also know how to measure a trampoline size. But if the size isn’t right, you’ll struggle with customer care and shipping back and forth.

Trampoline for your space

You have to evaluate the size of your outdoor space to choose a trampoline that fits well. If you have limited space, you’ll need a smaller trampoline. If the area is rectangular, circular, or oddly shaped, it’s wise to know before you buy a trampoline. Measure the space first and then measure a trampoline to see which one will fit.

If you’re shifting homes or renovating your backyard, measuring the trampoline is good to know if the space is sufficient. In addition, you get enough wiggle space from walls to avoid accidents. The falling trees are bad for mats and springs. Either take it down or find a place with no trees.

Where Is A Trampoline Measured From?

Before you decide how to measure a trampoline, there are different methods you can use. In addition, not all methods apply to all sizes of trampolines. So I’m going to break down how you can measure a trampoline.

Round Trampoline

For your round trampoline, you can use four different measurement methods:

  • First, measure the diameter of the frame, straight from one side to the other.
  • Measure the diameter of the mat without including the springs or outer frame.
  • Count the number of the springs.
  • Then measure the length of the springs, including the v-part.

Oval Trampoline

An oval trampoline isn’t the same as a round trampoline. Here’s how to accurately measure an oval trampoline:

  • Take the measurements of the longest side and the shortest side from the frame both times.
  • Also, measure the mat on both the long and short sides.
  • Count the springs and measure the length of the springs.

Other Shapes

Circular shapes are usually the easiest to measure. However, there’s no need to panic if you have other shapes like rectangular, square, hexagon, octagon, or any different odd shape.

Rectangular: all you need to measure are the long and short sides from frame to frame. Then measure the same length and width for the mat. Then count the springs and measure the size of the springs.

Square: since all sides are equal, you can measure the length of one side. Then count the number of springs and measure the spring’s length.

Octagonal, Hexagonal, or Odd shape: these shapes are different from the common ones. In this case, Measure a trampoline from corner to corner diagonally. Avoid measuring from side to side because the sides are not equal. Also, count the number of corners to be sure. Next, repeat the same process for the mat. Make sure you have accurate measurements as possible. If unsure, you can always repeat the process for more accurate results. Then count the number of springs and measure the length.

How Do You Measure Trampoline Springs?

When you notice your trampoline has lost its bounce, it’s time to replace the springs. However, measuring your springs first is wise before randomly placing an order. Springs for different trampolines have various measurements, and you should only buy the exact size.

To measure the springs, pick at least three to six unstretched springs. First, make sure the springs have both hooks intact. Then, repeat the process for the springs.

How Do You Measure A Trampoline Mat?

Before you measure the size of a trampoline mat, you must measure the frame size first. Then, measure the spring size from hook to hook to ensure it’s not stretched. Usually, the springs are 5.5 inches to 7 inches long.

Most trampoline jump mats available have diameters ranging from 8 feet, 10 feet, 12 feet, 13 feet, and 14 feet. You can also count the number of eyelets on your mat. Trampolines generally have 8 to 10, but you can space out the springs and still have an even mat fitting.
